Alaska Life: We Bought A Boat & Went Exploring Version

After our youth group trip to Blackstone Glacier, Tony got the itch to buy his own boat to use for fishing and exploring. So, he did the research, asked a friend to pitch in and share the boat with us, anndddddd now we have a Zodiac to zoom around in. Tony's thoughts: we can explore wherever we want to. More camping and fishing options. I was a little unsure at first, but our first boat trip sealed the deal for me. We set out on a rainy day and attempted to take on the autumn seas. It was raining buckets the first day, but my sister in law Holly convinced me to adventure with her (whatever we might face, which included rain in the face). It was SO worth it. My advice after this trip (especially if you live in Alaska): NEVER let a little rain keep you from exploring the beauty of this state.

Tony got to try out his new boat. I've never him smile that big before. Pelting rain, treacherous waves, and stuff flying out of the boat didn't even get him down. We took out a couple boats on the Prince William Sound and found a little cove to hunker down on. Here are some pictures from the trip. Some highlights included finding a jellyfish, learning that when you are that far from the city there is algae that will glow in the dark in the ocean and light up at night, seeing the stars at night, finding a cave to hide from the rain in, and waking up Sunday morning to a bright, sunny, gorgeous day. Fall is already my favorite season (I mean.... the football and boots and scarves and pumpkin and colors and school starts and our anniversary is October...), but the color of the trees and the leaves were stunning. It was amazing and restful and breathtaking. I'm falling more and more in love with this state of mine every day. And there is still so much more to explore.

"Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the tress of the forest will sing for joy." Psalm 96:11-12

My adventuring sister in law who reminds me life is too short to let rain stop you. So thankful for her friendship.

A little fire to keep warm :)
One reason why living in Alaska fits me so well: I LOVE camping and campfires.

One of my favorite finds from exploring: a entire field changing colors with the season with creek upon creek softly whispering through the crisp air.

One of my favorite authors said it best: "Not all who wander are lost." -J.R.R. Tolkien

Stay tuned for our next boating adventure :)

  1. I have major boat envy right now! Love all the pictures, makes me miss the Pacific Northwest. My wife and I were stationed there when I was in the Navy. Your pictures of Alaska remind me a lot of western Washington. We used to do a lot of exploring there. Everyday we found a new reason to love that place.

  2. Alaska is known as being one of the most beautiful and naturally rich locations on the planet. The breathaking sights, wildlife, and landscapes are truly endless. The idea of buying a boat to travel through Alaska is not only brilliant, it is truly courageous. From all of the pictures it looks like it was a great adventure and lots of fun.
